How to Clean and Maintain Your RO Dispenser Tap
Most people meticulously follow filter change schedules but completely ignore the one thing that comes in direct contact with their drinking water every day: the dispensing tap. A grimy, mould-infested tap can introduce bacteria directly into your glass, defeating the entire purpose of your RO system.
Signs Your Tap Needs Cleaning
- White mineral deposits or scale on the tap nozzle
- Black or green mould visible around the tap tip
- Slightly musty or metallic taste in water
- Water splashing unevenly (clogged nozzle)
How to Clean It: Step-by-Step
Step 1: Turn off the water supply to the purifier.
Step 2: Unscrew the tap nozzle (most twist off by hand or with a small wrench).
Step 3: Soak it in a solution of 1 cup water + 1 tablespoon white vinegar for 20 minutes. This dissolves mineral scale.
Step 4: Scrub gently with an old toothbrush. Pay attention to the inner part of the nozzle.
Step 5: Rinse thoroughly with clean water and reattach.
Step 6: Wipe the exterior of the tap daily with a damp cloth to prevent mould build-up.
How Often?
Clean the tap nozzle once a month. The exterior wipe-down should be a daily habit, especially in humid Pune weather which encourages mould growth.
